Considerations in Developing a Postemergence Herbicide in Cotton

G.S. Ide

ABSTRACT

The decision process leading to commercialization of a product in any crop is essentially the same. In the most simple form the questions asked are: Regulatory - Does the potential product have a favorable toxicological profile and present no or minimum risk to the environment? Biology - Does product biology exceed the industry standard or meet a need not currently addressed by commercialized materials? Economics - Do forecasted earnings satisfy corporate guidelines for return on investment? All 3 areas must be satisfied for the commercialization signal to be issued.
