Ovicidal Activity of Larvin® Brand Thiodicarb Against Heliothis Spp.

C.F. Harden, N.D. Brown, and T.C. Davidson

ABSTRACT

LARVIN® brand thiodicarb, an oxime carbamate insecticide now registered as an ovicide on cotton, has exhibited excellent ovicidal activity against Heliothis and other species in laboratory and field trials. The mortality of Heliothis eggs treated with LARVIN® thiodicarb at 0.125 lb ai/A was equivalent to control obtained with the standard, chlordimeform, at the same rate. Studies have shown that LARVIN® thiodicarb provides equally effective control of eggs from both pyrethroid-susceptible and -resistant strains of Heliothis virescens. Both field and laboratory data from 1987 will be discussed.
