Natural Occurrence of Immature Cottonseed in Six Midsouth Cultivars

S.T. Rayburn, Jr.

ABSTRACT

Immature cottonseed may increase the number of seed-coat fragments in ginned lint if they pass through the ginstand and segmented by lint cleaners. This study measured the frequency of immature seeds that occurred naturally in six midsouth cotton cultivars grown under the same field conditions. Results show that the age of immature seeds ranged from 5.7 to 18.1% for the cultivars tested.
