Selection of Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) Germplasm for Regeneration Potential

Norma L. Trolinder

ABSTRACT

Regeneration of cotton has been shown to be highly genotype specific. Eighty nature plants of Gossypium hirsutum L. cv. Coker 312 were evalauted for regeneration potential of parental material. From these, 22 plants were selected for their high regeneration potential, and their selfed progeny evalauted. These plants will provide explant material for the consistent and rapid regeneration of cotton needed in gene transformation and for genetic studies of the regeneration phenomenum.
