The Effect of Pix Applied at Various Rates and Timings to 30 Inch Cotton in the San Joaquin Valley

Bill L. Weir and Tom A. Kerby

ABSTRACT

Pix has been available for about seven growing seasons and a great deal of information concerning its use has been collected. It is a valuable chemical tool for controlling excessive vegetative growth and promotes earliness and increased production through heavier boll set on lower node branches. Recent work with Pix on narrow-row cotton (30 inch rows) has shown greater benefits with low rates and split applications. Tests in 1987 showed that three applications of 0.12 pint each at first square, first bloom and ten days after first bloom gave the highest yields.
