Update on the Taxonomy of Gossypium

James McD. Stewart

ABSTRACT

Gossypium, the genus of cotton, comprises a diverse group of species that are the main germplasm resource for cotton improvement. The number of species and new insights into the systematics of the genus continue to expand as plant explorations discover new material. This paper discusses the developments in the taxonomy of Gossypium in the past ten years.
