Short-Season Cotton Production in the San Joaquin Valley

Gerald Stoltenberg

ABSTRACT

First of all, we do not have a variety of cotton for short season. All we have is regular season cotton such as SJ-2 or G.C. 510, requiring heat units at 3200 heat unit hours for maximum growth and production. Our average is around 2800 heat units hours in our area at the northern end of the cotton growing region of the San Joaquin Valley, Mendota to Dos Palos. So, naturally, we have to help it along.
