Analysis of Detoxified Cotton Dust for Endotoxin by HPLC

Nancy M. Morris, Ralph Berni, and Edwin A. Catalano

ABSTRACT

Samples of standard cotton dust (1182DB), before and after detoxification treatments, were extracted with hot water and the extracts analyzed by HPLC. The phenacyl esters were prepared and the area of the peak assigned to the ester of 3-hydroxymyristic acid was used to estimate endotoxin concentration. These values are compared with those obtained from the LAL procedure.
