Ultraviolet Photography and its Potential in Hybrid Cotton Development

R. Gary Smith and John R. Gannaway

ABSTRACT

The use of ultraviolet (UV) photography to quantify differences of floral attractiveness to bees of several cotton (Gossypium sp. L.) types was investigated. The ultraviolet light reveals the striking diversity of monodelphious stamens. These results can be used to correlate nectar quality and production with UV attractiveness to further enhance development of hybrid cotton.
