ABSTRACT
In further work on the byssinosis problem, counts were made for total, gram-negative, and presumptive coliform bacteria on field-weathered fiber of Acala 1517-75, Deltapine 50, Deltapine 61, Stoneville 825, and Tamcot SP-37H, picked by hand and by machine on Sept. 24-26 and Nov. 12-13, 1985. Counts were generally in a low range, with small increases between the first and second harvests but with no major differences related to variety or method of picking. Fiber pH's were generally close to pH 7.0. Implications of the data in respect to the problem of byssinosis in cotton mills are discussed.
