Liability Reform Efforts: An Assessment of 1986

Joseph C. Murphy, Jr.

ABSTRACT

As far as dealing with the liability crisis in 1986 is concerned, the jury is still out. There was a great deal of legislative activity this year in an effort to solve business' insurance problems. If those involved with this issue have learned anything in 1986, it's that there are no simple solutions to this problem.

I'm going to review efforts in the state legislatures to deal with the liability situation and the effort to enact federal product liability legislation this past year.
