Use of Computers and Computer Telecommunications in the Classification of Cotton

Jesse F. Moore

ABSTRACT

Cotton classification data is disseminated by AMS cotton classing offices in the form of machine readable class cards, by computer tape and diskette, and by telecommunications. Only about one half of all classification data is now issued in hard copy, class card form. AMS Cotton Division plans to expand its computer telecommunications capability and to incorporate a computer backup system to ensure that computer failures do not interrupt the flow of classification data back to the grower.
