Nutsedge Problems in Texas and Oklahoma and Current Control Practices

D.N. Weaver

ABSTRACT

A survey of research and extension weed scientists and agronomists in Oklahoma and the major cotton production regions in Texas was conducted in late 1986. Responses indicated that yellow nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus L.) occurs exclusively in Oklahoma and predominant in the Dallas, El Paso - Ft. Stockton and Lubbock production areas of Texas. In the College Station and Corpus Christi areas yellow nutsedge constituted 70 to 75% of the infested acreage and purple nutsedge (Cyperus rotundus L.) occupied the remaining 20 to 25% of infested acreage. The infestation in the Rio Grande Valley is 99% purple nutsedge.
