ABSTRACT

Significant reductions in boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis Boheman, punctures were recorded in small field plots of T277-2-6 at a Brazos River Valley location near College Station. Comparisons were made with Stoneville 213. Also, significantly fewer adult weevils emerged from collected weevil egg-punctured squares in T277-2-6. In laboratory comparisons, weevils oviposited equally in squares of T277-2-6 and Stoneville 213. In 3 screen cage tests, cages 6' x 6' x 6', released female weevils punctured ca. the same number of squares in the two cottons grown in pots. Numbers of abscised squares from weevil attack were similar. In a field test of the 2 genotypes, planted in pots, no significant difference in punctured squares between the 2 cottons was noted.
