ABSTRACT

Field studies were conducted to determine the effect of (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-ol (Z11-16:OH) on capture of Heliothis virescens (F.) males when added to two component (HV-2) and six component (RV-6) pheromone blends and incorporated into polyvinyl chloride (PVC) dispensers. PVC lures containing 0.25% or 1.0% Z11-16:OH relative to total pheromone content generally caught more male H. virescens than lures containing no Z11-16:OH or 5.95% Z11-16:OH. Trap catches were significantly reduced with lures containing 5.95% Z11-16:OH compared with lures containing no Z11-16:OH. There were no differences in catch between traps baited with HV-2 vs. HV-6 or comparisons of HV-2+0.25% Z11-16:OH vs. HV-6+0.25% Z11-16:OH when formulated in PVC substrate.
