Effect of Sprinkler Irrigation on Open Cotton Flowers

D.A. Pennington and H. C. Pringle, III

ABSTRACT

Rainfall or sprinkler water applications in the morning on open cotton flowers were shown to reduce wetted flower retention to about 35% of the retention of open flowers not wetted during the morning. This flower loss is shown to cause a yield reduction in production fields of only 1 or 2 percent with a 2-day delay in maturity.
