A Population and Distribution Survey of Cotton Nematodes in Mississippi

Don Blasingame and M.V. Patel

ABSTRACT

A survey of 5 percent of the cotton acreage in an eight county area indicated the presence of root-knot and reniform nematodes in soils in Mississippi. The population of both these nematodes appeared to increase throughout the growing season. In Leflore County, 33 percent of the samples taken contained root-knot with 26 percent containing numbers above the threshold level. In Washington County, 31 percent of the samples contained the reniform nematode with 24 percent being above the threshold level.
