Pentia™ Plant Regulator Results of the 2003 on Farm Studies Virginia and the Carolinas

Tom McKemie and Chandler Mazour

ABSTRACT

In 2003 on farm studies were conducted to evaluate Pentia™ Plant Regulator under grower field conditions. Twenty-six separate multi-acre blocks of cotton and two strip trials were initiated with paired comparisons of Pentia™ versus mepiquat chloride (MC) containing growth regulators including Pix® Plus. Applications began at MHS with a second application following 2-3 weeks later. Similar rates of both Pentia™ and MC were tested. The growing season was much improved over 2002 and all cotton regular performed well, including Pentia™. However, rate for rate across 28 locations Pentia® treated cotton was 12.1% shorter, had 1.9% more open bolls/plant, and 24.8% more 1st and 2nd bolls/plant. Yield increases were also observed. Yields were improved by 15.6% or 120 lb lint/A. Similar studies will be conducted in 2004.
