Evaluating the Productivity of U.S. Cotton Production
|
ABSTRACT Total Factor Productivity indexes were calculated for 1996-2001. The U.S. is represented by the six largest producing states with available input data. States show similar trends in annual technology measurements. Input inefficiencies are a major cause of differing TFP trends among states. Productivity for the U.S. increased by an average annual rate of 1.1 percent. This is a result of technology improvements that began in 1999. Technology enhancements have compensated for input inefficiencies in states with adverse environmental conditions. |
