Performance of Pima S-6//*3 Tamcot 2111 Families

ABSTRACT

Interspecific hybridization is an effective mechanism for the introgression of desirable genes of one species to another. An attempt was made to introgress fiber property alleles from a Gossypium barbadense cultivar into a G. hirsutum cultivar. Seventeen of the twenty-four families that were developed were evaluated in 1996 and 1997 for agronomic and fiber properties. Of the seventeen families, four have been identified as having been successfully introgressed with G. barbadense alleles for fiber quality, one with fiber strength, one with fiber length, and two with fiber micronaire.
