Don Panter, Roger Ward, Mark Barfield, Jack Kiser and Cathy Houck

ABSTRACT

Stoneville Pedigreed Seed Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Calgene, Inc., is announcing the release of a new Buctril®-resistant cotton variety, BXN47. BXN47 is a transgenic variety that contains the patented BXN® gene, which confers resistance to the herbicide Buctril®‚ a product of Rhone-Poulenc. Buctril® provides excellent control of many annual broadleaf weeds including cocklebur, morningglory, velvetleaf, and hemp sesbania. All BXN® varieties, including BXN47, can be sprayed over-the-top with Buctril herbicide from the two-leaf stage up to 60 days before harvest without plant injury or yield reduction.
