When light is transmitted through a parallel array of fiber, it undergoes a nonlinear attenuation with amount of mass. Therefore, the optical response must undergo a mathematical correction when the monitored signal is used as an indicator for fiber mass. This work compares the usual logarithmic correction on the average signal across the fiber beard to a pointbypoint correction applied to the distributed light level across the fiber beard.
