Using renewable fuels to make the cotton industry self-sufficient.

This week’s Cotton Newsline is 3 cuts.  All cuts are Dr. Calvin Parnell, Cotton Chair and Director of the Center for Agricultural Air Quality Engineering and Science at Texas A&M University.

Suggested introduction cut 1:

The U.S. is currently consuming a fourth of the world’s energy with only 5 percent of the world population. Dr. Calvin Parnell, Cotton Chair and Director of the Center for Agricultural Air Quality Engineering and Science at Texas A&M University, is working to design new methods for reducing our fossil fuel dependence by using renewable fuels.

Suggested introduction cut 2:

Although grain based ethanol has been the central focus of alternative fuel research, Parnell says other options are going to have to be considered.

Suggested introduction cut 3:

Parnell believes such technologies will be developed and practiced in the near future, but currently cotton growers need to concentrate on reducing their own dependence on fossil fuels.
