The National Cotton Council is asking U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Rob Portman and Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez for assistance in resolving possible issues with the Dominican Republic Central America Free Trade Agreement.

The National Cotton Council is asking U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Rob Portman and Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez (pronounced Gu-tear-ez) for assistance in resolving possible issues with the Dominican Republic Central America Free Trade Agreement. According to Robbie Minnich, Senior Government Relations Representative, the National Cotton Council feels that there are several unintended consequences that could be created by doing a rolling implementation.

Suggested introduction cut 2:

Minnich says because of the rolling implementation several countries could lose the opportunity to use regional and U.S. inputs.

According to Minnich, The Council is asking USTR and USDA to keep the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act in affect until CAFTA enters into force for the last CAFTA signatory country.
