This week’s Cotton Newsline is three cuts. All cuts are Auggie Tantillo, Executive Director of the American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition (AMTAC).
Suggested introduction cut 1:
The U.S. textile industry filed petitions with the Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements to reapply nine safeguards. According to Auggie Tantillo, Executive Director for the American Manufacturing Trade Action Coalition, if these petitions are approved the import limits imposed by these new safeguards would expire at the end of 2006.
Suggested introduction cut 2:
Over the last seven months, China has mounted the biggest export surge in history. U.S. imports from China in the apparel safeguard categories grew by 850 million garments, an average increase of 627 percent. According to Tantillo, the pricing practices of China are a great concern.
Suggested introduction cut 3:
If a comprehensive agreement on textiles between the U.S. and China is not met, Tantillo says the U.S. will continue to use the safeguard mechanism that was part of China’s accession agreement into the WTO.
