This week’s Cotton Newsline is four cuts. All cuts are Glenn Harris, Soil and Fertilizer Extension Specialist at the University of Georgia.
Suggested introduction cut one:
Participants at the Beltwide Cotton Conferences, held earlier this month in New Orleans, Louisiana, learned how amendments to the federal Clean Water Act will change production agriculture. According to Glenn Harris, Soil and Fertilizer Extension Specialist at the University of Georgia, cotton producers must control two nutrients.
Suggested introduction cut two:
When working to control nitrogen applications, Harris thinks producers should use split applications.
Suggested introduction for cut three:
The University of Georgia has conducted preliminary work using a phosphorus index to control the nutrient in soil. Harris thinks the tool could be beneficial once Clean Water Act standards for the farm are set.
Suggested introduction for cut four:
Harris thinks it won’t be too hard for producers to meet Clean Water Act standards, but the sooner they begin, the better.
