Agriculture’s continued importance to Texas was confirmed by the release of the 2002 U.S. Census data which showed that the market value of the state’s agricultural products was up $118 million from the 1997 Census. It also revealed there are 228,926 farms in the state, up 753 from the 1997 Census.
