Cotton Council International and Cotton Incorporated have teamed together to promote cotton to the world’s second most populous country, India. Through the joint effort known as Cotton Gold Alliance, the Seal of Cotton is licensed to Indian partnerships that agree to use 100% cotton on high quality products. Allen Terhaar, executive director of Cotton Council International, is extremely pleased with Cotton Gold Alliance’s adoption by the Indian textile community since its launch in 2002.

2003 was a tremendous year for Cotton Gold Alliance. With licensees increasing to 21, more than 35 brands in 82 product lines currently showcase the Seal of Cotton on apparel and home furnishings in India. The program has been embraced for several reasons, says Dean Turner, senior vice president of Global Product Marketing, at Cotton Incorporated.

Until now, the Seal of Cotton has only been licensed in North America. By combining strong Seal placement with consumer and trade promotions, awareness and preference for cotton in India will continue to grow through Cotton Gold Alliance.
