USDA’s Southern Research Center has devoted a great deal of time and money in the quest to improve flame retardant finishes for cotton.

USDA’s Southern Research Center has devoted a great deal of time and money in the quest to improve flame retardant finishes for cotton. Like many others, the center scaled back efforts in this research to focus on other up-and-coming topical applications for cotton, like wrinkle-free technology. According to Dr. Patrick Jordan, director of the Southern Research Center, testing is underway on a chemical process that creates flame retardancy and durable press together on cotton fabric.

Realizing cotton’s expanding role in medical nonwovens, the Southern Research Center is currently conducting test trials on an interesting value-add for cotton bandages.
