The U.S. cotton industry supports fair trade agreements, says NCC Chairman Woody Anderson

Suggested introduction for cut one:

Fair trade agreements are welcomed by the U.S. cotton industry, National Cotton Council Chairman Woody Anderson recently told House Agricultural Committee members. Anderson's report to Congress acknowledged the need for equitable trade agreements for U.S. cotton, especially with current global supply and demand conditions.

Suggested introduction for cut two:

As U.S. cotton's largest importer, China purchased over 2.5 million bales of U.S. cotton in 2003. However, Anderson noted reforms are needed to elements of the U.S.-China WTO Accession Agreement.

Suggested introduction for cut three:

With exports of U.S. raw fiber accounting for more than sixty percent of the crop, preferential and free trade agreements greatly impact U.S. cotton. Anderson mentioned that several agreements awaiting Congressional consideration may be acceptable for cotton fiber, but will further damage U.S. textile industries.
