According to John Johnson, deputy administrator of Farm Programs for the Farm Service Agency, online acreage and crop reporting may be available through USDA's web site by late 2005.

The United States Department of Agriculture is actively fulfilling President Bush’s mandates to provide “citizen-centered” government services. One example of such programs is known as “e-gov.” John Johnson, deputy administrator of Farm Programs for the Farm Service Agency, explains the agency is compiling a web-based geographic information system, or GIS, for acreage and crop reporting under e-gov.

According to Johnson, the Farm Service Agency is in the process of taking aerial shots for the geographic information system. Once shots are entered into the database, steps are taken to ensure land units are accurate.
