Dr. Mark Lange, president and chief executive officer of the National Cotton Council, was part of a delegation that met recently with members of the Chinese government and textile industry.

Dr. Mark Lange, National Cotton Council president and chief executive officer, was a member of a recent Department of Commerce delegation to China, led by Grant D. Aldonas, undersecretary for International Trade. Representing the United States textile industry, the group met with members of the Chinese government and textile industry to discuss several concerns, including how the Chinese government plans to implement World Trade Organization commitments.

Prior to the late March meetings, Aldonas stressed the importance of U.S. textile executives meeting with the Chinese to talk about unfairness in certain trade areas and to promote practices that, if changed, could make China a more open market to allow the United States textile industry to compete globally. Lange expounds on other messages that were delivered.

The delegation also reiterated to the Chinese that should safeguards be implemented, the process would be much timelier than in the past.
