Flair®: Postemergence Broadleaf Herbicide, Current and Potential Uses

Larry G. Thead

ABSTRACT

Flair®, the proposed name for current and future terrestrial uses of Hydrothol 191® is currently being sold for stale seed-bed use in Louisiana under a 24c registration. While there are currently several herbicides widely used in this market for broadspectrum control of broadleaf weeds and grasses, not all weeds are effectively controlled. Pennsylvania smartweed, a weed not effectively controlled with the more commonly used stale seed-bed treatments, can be a troublesome weed when not controlled. Rates of Hydrothol 191 ranging from 2-3 pt/a applied either late post harvest or early preplant up to 10-14 days prior to crop planting is effective in controlling Pennsylvania smartweed. Potential future uses include use as a desiccant/defoliant in the stripper cotton market as well as a herbicide.
