ABSTRACT
When plots were inoculated with Rhizoctonia solani and Pythium Spp. to simulate severe disease conditions, the use of starter fertilizer significantly reduced seedling stands by 27% 15 days and 29% 30 days after planting. Two nitrogen starter fertilizers were evaluated, ammonium poly phosphate and urea applied infurrow at planting (15 lb/A actual nitrogen). Plots treated with either of the starter fertilizers had similar stands with no significant differences. The use of the in-furrow fungicides Terraclor Super X (12.5 G, 10.0 lb/A), Ridomil PC (11.0 G, 10 lb/A), and Terraclor Super X (12.5 G, 10.0 lb/A) + Temik (15 G, 5 lb/A) significantly improved stands in plots with and without starter fertilizer. However, stands were significantly lower in plots receiving a starter fertilizer and infurrow fungicide over plots receiving an in-furrow fungicide alone. There were no significant differences in seed cotton yield between any of the treatments.
