CROPLINK™ Advanced Weather Station System

B.R. Gardner

ABSTRACT

Conventional weather stations have two shortcomings which make the information coming from them questionable for managing agricultural crops or using crop models such as Gossym/Comax or Calex. First, conventional stations are usually established over a "reference" surface such as turf grass. The reliability of such references is questionable for several reasons. The second shortcoming is that conventional weather stations ignore the single most important piece of information needed to understand plant behavior: plant temperature. CROPLINK(TM) CROP MONITORING SYSTEM was developed to provide crop managers with information based on actual crop conditions. The CROPLINK(TM) software was designed specifically to provide growers with information to make decisions related to irrigation, frost, disease, and pest control. Crop models such as Gossym/Comax and Calex can be made more accurate by incorporating CROPLINK(TM) information.
