Cotton Acreage and Farm Program Participation on Alabama Farms under Selected Policy Provisions

Anne Mims, Patricia A. Duffy, and William E. Hardy, Jr.

ABSTRACT

Multi-year Integer Programming models of two representative Alabama row-crop farms were developed for the major cotton producing area of the state. The programming models were used to evaluate the effects of alternative farm program provisions for cotton on program participation and crop acreages. Results indicate the importance of the payment limitation provision, acreage reduction requirements, and the expected difference between market and target prices in determining program participation.
