Southeastern Boll Weevil Eradication Program: Improved Pheromone Traps and Program Status

W.A. Dickerson, R.L. Ridgway, and F.R. Planer

ABSTRACT

The six component molded plastic boll weevil trap has been demonstrated to be equally efficient to the previous trap used by the Southeastern Boll Weevil Eradication Program. Two years of operational experience using over 350,000 traps has determined the trap is durable and color stable. Extensive Program trapping data for 1986 from a total of over 10,000 cotton fields in VA, NC, and SC indicate that boll weevil reproduction probably occurred on 17 fields north of the Buffer Zone in 1986.
