Efficacy of Larvin® Brand Thiodicarb Insecticide for Control of Fall Armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda) and Beet Armyworm (Spodoptera exigua) on Cotton

F.J. Gonzales and J.L. Allen

ABSTRACT

LARVIN® brand Thiodicarb, a new oxime carbamate insecticide demonstrated excellent performance against fall and beet armyworms on cotton at the use rate of 0.60 pounds active ingredient per acre (lbs. ai/A). From 1982 through 1985, Union Carbide Agricultural Products Company, Inc. conducted extensive large scale Experimental Use Permit (E.U.P.) investigations on cotton. Under this testing program, LARVIN® brand thiodicarb provided excellent worm control with minimal impact on nontarget organisms in cotton. No other currently-available cotton insecticide can provide the same degree of consistent control as LARVIN(G) brand thiodicarb without crop phytotoxicity. A review of the E.U.P. data will be presented and discussed in this paper.
