Bollgard® II Cotton Efficacy Summary - Southeast

D. L. Pitts

ABSTRACT

Bollgard® II cotton was evaluated in over 40 small plot field trials across the southeastern states of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia during the field season of 2000. Bollgard II (D&PL 50 BGII) consistently decreased the amount of square and boll damage inflicted by variable levels of cotton bollworm larvae (Helicoverpa zea) compared to Bollgard (D&PL 50B) or conventional cotton (D&PL 50). Actual bollworm larval counts within these trials reflect the excellent activity based on the infrequent incidents of larval detection in the Bollgard II plots. Plant mapping information and yield estimates support increased insect efficacy with consistent yield improvements along with higher first position fruit retention patterns. Consistent and increased levels of efficacy was also observed against fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda).and soybean looper (Pesudoplusia includens).
